There are many things one can get up to while home alone. You could do the Tom Cruise tube sock dance circa 1983’s Risky Business. You could even be a bit more daring and do it in the nude, although I would recommend closing your blinds and curtains ahead of time unless you also want to give the neighborhood kids a lesson in human anatomy. Heck, you could clean your house and turn around to see that things you picked up seconds ago are still put away (most useful when you have a toddler). Or, you could get into bed and take a long nap and watch some really bad talk shows. Sadly, most of the cheesiest of talk shows have been taken off the air and I spend 22 hours a day in bed (I am allowed to sit upright when i eat my meals).
Since I can only lay on my sides I find myself constantly tossing and turning trying to take some of the pressure off whatever hip has been subjected to my body weight plus the weight of carrying three babies. This can be quite comical and frustrating. I have to wake completely from my nice comforting sleep and turn half of my body over. Then, I have to half sit up to get the rest of myself over. Luckily, I sleep with a very heavy sleeper so he doesn’t wake up with me every 45 to 60 minutes when I switch sides. Not that I don’t try to give him an elbow in the back or a swift kick to the backs of his legs. Misery is best when shared, right?
I know I could have it much worse. Two women from the BabyCenter message board I’ve been visiting have ended up in the hospital on bed rest. I like hospitals as much as the next guy, so that means I am super gluing myself to my bed for the next 4 to 6 weeks. OK, not literally since I have to go to Minneapolis for two days this week.
Tomorrow we leave to get to the a hotel and then at 7:30 am we have an appointment with the perinatologist. We’re getting closer and closer to delivery, so they are going to pre-admit us Friday so if I need to take a little ride in a helicopter down there to deliver it won’t so so hectic. *cough*
Friday also brings the beginning of weekly biophysical profile ultrasounds and non-stress tests. Woo! When contacted by my insurance company I was asked if they were going to be doing these tests at my home or if I would have to go to the clinic to have them done. I choked on my saliva and began to laugh nervously. I told the man on the other side of the phone that they don’t have that sort of technology up here in the middle of no where and that, as it was, the ultrasound tech at the local hospital was already shitting bricks at the thought of doing BPP (biophysical profiles) on triplets.
I already have a bit of nervous energy surrounding the whole BPP thing. I’ve had one done before (as I assured the ultrasound tech, even though he wasn’t the one to do it) when I was pregnant with Ethan. He failed it spectacularly and was born that night. I am hoping the same thing doesn’t happen this time around. While I can feel plenty of movement, I have no idea who is doing what and if it’s all 3 or just 2 of them. Once again, I wish I was freaky enough to be BFFs with Tom Cruise so I had access to his ultrasound machine.
So, I am home alone today. Nice subject change, huh? My mom has a doctors appointment this morning in my hometown and brought Abby with her. She’ll drop Abby off with my brother and his sons so she doesn’t have to deal with a rather impatient toddler while giving her entire medical history to a new doctor. Me? I’m going to take a nap. Abby climbed up into our bed in the middle of the night which means I didn’t sleep. Not that I get much sleep at night as it is.
Wah! I am just so damn tired, people! I’ll get around to replying to comments about my big ole belly after a nap. I promise!! First, I need to find some ear plugs. My mom’s dog has some severe separation issues and has been whining for her since she left an hour ago. (Technically, the dog is Emma’s but the dog bonded with Buster so much that we worried how they would react if they were split apart - not well as we’ve seen recently - so the dog continued to live with my mom after we moved in with James.)
Did you see that unicorn?! It’s horn was so shiny!
